So, on _Monday_ my service provider will have a tech out with new hardware to set up the net and we'll be 100% again. Apparently the company that subcontracts most of the lines for this area (Covad) won't do work during the weekend and had no free appointments today.

While this is, admittedly, the same date I was given when I called my provider on Tuesday (the guy I dealt with yesterday pulled every string he could find), I don't consider it acceptable. I believe that when I next move, I'll be looking into other business network access providers. Perhaps Verizon, which has their OWN string of techs, will be better. While my current provider (XO Communications) is undoubtedly good for their top end services, which they wire themselves (T1 and up), their use of another company's network is hurting me badly with the DSL.

The cost won't change much either way. I think Verizon can provide me equivalent service for about the same $180 a month.

*sigh*

I'll definitely be contacting upper management at XO via snail/email about their lack of clarity regarding equipment specs on their website and the piss-poor service that Covad provides to their customers. Their tech support staff, while it varies in tech knowledge (one gal I spoke to was obviously new), is uniformly customer service oriented, polite and helpful. So there are a few good things there. At least none of the people I dealt with was problematic.

Wow. Well, it certainly seems like I never use this for anything but complaining and stressing. I think I'll have to try to change that.

I have more free time in the evenings now, so I'll see if I can be entertaining (or at least chatty). Well, at least once I have internet connectivity again.
